Inspired by Nature

Inspired by the harsh beauty of the desertscape of my native land, here is some new art of mine. If you are interested you can find prints, greeting cards, and etc. at Fine Art America. By the way, if by chance you are interested in the original art you can find info here.

Back-to-School Time for Teachers

So, what happened to your lesson plans over the summer? Get the shirt and let everybody know. I created this (and a bunch of other educational stuff because my wife is an educator) many years ago and it is still fashionable teacherwear. Click here. BTW, I'll be posting coloring pages, fact sheets and other free stuff for teachers to download as time permits.

BTW, teachers can still download free education clip art I created at the Discovery Clip Art Gallery. Hopefully someday all the art in the Gallery will be updated with vector images. But in the meantime there are still many fun pieces of art that still work great for many projects in the classroom or at home. More info and links here: www.markix.net/discovery_clip_art.html

Need Spot Art?

Creating spot artwork for publications is a specialty of mine. I have created many spot illustrations for magazines, books, and etc. So, art directors and editors, if you need a little something to fill that little extra space just drop me a note and I'll come up with something for you. Just click on the image above and you will be taken directly to my contact page.

Art Mends People

Clinical research has shown that art can be an effective way to help ailing patients mend. Yet, many hospitals and other care facilities lack the resources to provide art materials to patients. That's where my personal charity project, Art Mends, steps up. Art Mends provides free art materials to children and adults coping with challenging illnesses. So far, through small donations and sales of my artwork, I have purchased hundreds of dollars worth of art materials and donated them to my local county hospital.

I see expanding Art Mends into a nationwide charitable organization providing art supplies to any and all care facilities that may need them for their patients. I'm not sure how I'm going to do this, but I'll keep working on it and figure it out along the way like I always do.

The name of this blog also comes from one of the places I wouldn't mind having a studio, Carefree, Arizona, and the road that takes you there, the Carefree Highway. A road that has played a very important role in my life.

Here's a quick sketch (from memory) of the Carefree Highway on a spring morning many years ago before the grocery store and the McDonald's and the condos were built.
